How to Work from Home, Especially when Suddenly Being Forced to!

My advice to what I have learned from working from home for the past 1.5 years.

My background is interior design, hospitality management, and most recently the fintech startup admin world. What do all of those career paths have in common? They are all highly social, super unpredictable, and sometimes even chaotic…

Incidentally, I’m the typical “thrive on chaos” type of problem-solving leader, and I loved every minute of all of these careers.

So, when the time came to start working from home about a year and a half ago, I had to learn to adjust. I went from running multi-million dollar year restaurants and scaling startups from 9–90 employees, to being predominantly alone in my house, with only my dogs and cats to talk to throughout the day. It was different to say the least.

With today’s state of the world and how the Coronavirus is affecting our society, there has been a push for so many people to have to work from home or change to online classes, so I wanted to share what I have learned with you:

  1. Don’t fall for the allure of working in your PJ’s.

Alright, do it once or twice to get it out of your system if you must, but then, keep your work routine. Still set an alarm for the same time you’ve always gotten up. Still do your yoga, shower, dress, and put on your make up every day.
